Video: Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 Panels at Work

News by Michael Oryl on Tuesday April 01, 2008.

We got the chance to play around with Sony Ericsson's Xperia X1 here in Las Vegas at the CTIA Wireless 2008 show. One of the big questions around the X1 has been "what do the panels do?" Well, now we know. They provide quick access to both apps and different home screens, as you can see in the video demo below.

At the end of the demo we see the very cool "fish" panel that actually shows status information about things like battery levels and missed calls. It is not the most practical thing in the world, but it is a good example of what can be done with the panels system. Sony Ericsson's Suzanne Cross, the voice in the video, said that the company was courting 3rd party developers to create new panels.
