Nokia Goes Green at CES 2008

News by Michael Oryl on Wednesday January 09, 2008.

At the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nokia was showing off its green side. To start with, the company had the new 3110 Evolve on display. This new version of the 3110 Classic has an external cover that is made up of 50% recycled materials and ships in a new compact box that itself is 60% recycled. On top of that, the 3110 Evolve will ship with a new high-efficiency power adapter that Nokia claims is 90% more efficient than what the U.S. government's Energy Star program requires. If you look at the photos of the rear of the phone, above, you will see Nokia's new 'green' logo. It looks like a power switch icon that has been inverted and colored green. Nokia told us that it is supposed to represent a tree.

Nokia was also showing off a lot of new box designs, not just the green one made for the 3110 Evolve. The new boxes are meant to be more compact, so that planes and trucks shipping the Nokia phones can pack more boxes into their cargo spaces, which has the effect of reducing the number of vehicles needed and reducing both fuel consumption and exhaust emissions.

Nokia also had its green car on hand. This hybrid vehicle was decked out in a green and white color scheme and comes equipped with custom Nokia floor mats and even N810 Internet Tablets in the headrests for the rear seat passengers to use. Nokia seems pretty serious about its new green side, and ended up dedicating a rather large portion of new CES booth to this display.
