Today Helio announced the availability of the company's new YouTube Mobile application for the Helio Ocean messaging phone. Available for free to Ocean users, the YouTube Mobile application allows its users to not only view YouTube videos, but rate and comment on them, and upload newly recorded videos, as well. The YouTube Mobile application on the Ocean even goes so far as to add GPS tagging information to uploaded videos.
Other features of the application, which we feature in the video below, include the ability to share favorite videos with friends in the phone's contact list, as well as the ability to add a video to the user's My Favorites and to create new video playlists. All of the normal YouTube navigation options are still in place, meaning that it is easy to find all of the top rated or featured videos for the day - just like on the website.
The application is quite good in general, but does still need a bit of work. For instance, it is not obvious as to how one gets back to the navigation tabs quickly from the video viewer (the 1, 2, and 3 keys jump to the tabs). The application tends to start rebuffer previous clips when the back button is hit. The quality of the videos on the YouTube Mobile app can't match that of the main website, and most clips require a fair amount of buffering before they start. But all in all, YouTube fans are going to be overjoyed with what the Ocean can now do for them.
