FCC Leaks WiFi/UMA Enabled Blackberry Pearl 8120
News by Ricky Cadden on Thursday November 22, 2007.
The FCC recently published documents detailing an updated Blackberry Pearl 8120. The Pearl 8120 appears to be similar to the recently announced Pearl 8130, though opting for quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) support instead of CDMA. The Blackberry Pearl 8120 also sports a 3.5mm audio jack and microSD card slot. A notable addition, however, is the built-in WiFi, for high speed data. Also mentioned in the user manual is a reference to UMA, or Unlicensed Mobile Access.
UMA is the technology behind T-Mobile USA's HotSpot@Home service, which allows handsets to seamless transfer a call between typical cellular networks and a WiFi hotspot. T-Mobile USA also recently launched the Blackberry Curve on their Hotspot@Home service.
