T-Mobile Suspends Sales of Sidekick Slide due to Power Issue
News by Michael Oryl on Saturday November 17, 2007.
Last night T-Mobile announced that it was suspending sales of the recently launched Sidekick Slide, a device built for T-Mobile by Motorola. T-Mobile is reporting that Motorola has confirmed the existance of a problem that causes some T-Mobile Sidekick Slide devices to power-off when the display's slide mechanism is used.
Motorola is reportedly studying the problem in order to come up with some sort of fix.
T-Mobile customers that are experiencing the problem with their Sidekick Slide can contact T-Mobile Customer Care, at 1-800-266-2459, or speak with a sales representative at any T-Mobile retail location in order to get additional information or to discuss currently available options.
T-Mobile is stressing that this problem does not effect either of the other two available Sidekick models, the iD and LX, which are both manufactured for T-Mobile by Sharp.
Update November 21, 2007: T-Mobile has issued the following update regarding the Sidekick Slide.
Motorola has determined that the intermittent power cycling on some T-Mobile Sidekick Slide devices was caused by a minor issue relating to the battery contacts. Motorola also has identified and tested a solution which it will implement for existing devices, and incorporate into newly manufactured ones. T-Mobile expects to begin offering the Sidekick Slide again beginning next week.
If a customer has a Sidekick Slide that is experiencing the intermittent power cycle issue, they may contact T-Mobile Customer Care or go to a T-Mobile retail store for assistance and to discuss available options.
