PayPal Offers New Mobile Checkout Service

News by Brad Kellett on Thursday July 12, 2007.

After launching its text-message based mobile payment service back in April, PayPal has expanded its offering to mobile device users this week by introducing Mobile Checkout. Mobile Checkout is a service to merchants that allows them to process payments through PayPal on the mobile web.

With a user interface tooled for small screens like mobile phones, the Mobile Checkout service is a very forward-thinking move by PayPal, preparing them to process payments for the growing mobile shopping market. A range of merchants that offer mobile phone optimized shop fronts have already signed on to offer Mobile Checkout, including purveyors of DVDs, CDs, clothing, and tickets.

Kevin Dulsky, senior director of PayPal, commenting on the service through press release said, "As the mobile commerce market grows as an extension of ecommerce, it will be critical for online merchants to adopt a secure mobile payment platform to reach new consumers and to remain competitive in the market."
