Today in London Sony Ericsson announced two new entry-level K series handsets: the K200 and K220. Both handsets sport a VGA camera with one-touch access to both the camera and the photo album thanks to a dedicated hardware key. The photo albums are capable of displaying up to 40 images in a slide show on each device's 128x128 pixel, 64k color CSTN display.
Other highlights in these entry level devices include 32 voice polyphonic ringtones and a hands free speakerphone as well as the ability to store up to 300 contacts and 250 SMS messages in internal memory storage. PIM type applications include an alarm, a calendar, and a calculator app.
The only significant differences between the K200 and the K220, apart from the color schemes, are related to radio functions, in a sense. To start with, the K220 has a built-in FM radio with RDS support and 10 channel pre-sets. The K200, while lacking the FM radio, will be available in two different dual-band GSM/GPRS versions, 850/1900MHz and 900/1800MHz, while the K220 will only be available in a 900/1800MHz version.
Sony Ericsson expects both devices to be capable of up to 8 hours of talk time and 12 days of standby time.
Both devices will ship in Q2 of this year. The K200 will be available in metallic black or light champagne. The K220 will be available in frost white and ocean blue. No information on pricing has been provided.
