Sprint Nextel has released a new downloadable mobile email client for its customers, unimaginatively titled Sprint Mobile Email. Powered by email service provider SEVEN, Sprint Mobile Email allows access to multiple email accounts easily on a user's handset.
Sprint Mobile Email comes preconfigured for sending and receiving email from popular providers including AOL, Windows Live, and Yahoo!, but also allows users to set up their own IMAP or POP email accounts as well.
"By making mobile email look and act closer to the desktop email experience, Sprint is giving its customers a familiar and easy way to access multiple email accounts while on the go," said Jack Baker, director of wireless data messaging and communities for Sprint.
The tabbed interface for multiple accounts allows message composition outside of network coverage, with the message being sent when the user is back in a coverage area. Sprint Mobile Email also gives the option of push mail notification, though text messaging rates apply when this is used.
