T-Mobile Germany Launches HTC Wizard Based MDA Vario

Product Launch by Michael Oryl on Wednesday October 26, 2005.

Earlier this week, T-Mobile Germany introduced the new MDA Vario, a Windows Mobile 5.0 for Pocket PC Phone Edition device that is based on the same HTC Wizard design used in the i-mate K-Jam and QTEK 9100 handsets. The device sports a slide out QWERTY keyboard, a 1.3 megapixel camera, and a 64k color display with a 240x320 resolution that also works in landscape mode when the keyboard or camera are in use.

The MDA Vario has 128MB of flash storage and 64MB of RAM, as well as a miniSD memory card slot. While the MDA Vario does make use of a somewhat slow 200Mhz TI OMAP processor, it does support all four GSM frequency bands. On top of that, the MDA Vario also has WiFi and Bluetooth support for data connections above and beyond the GPRS network support. There are versions of the Wizard out there that support EDGE data, but the MDA Vario does not.

Currently T-Mobile USA has not made any announcement about offering its own version of the MDA Vario, but rumors on the net since August indicate that they will offer their own version "soon". T-Mobile has not said this themselves, though, so all of this is pure speculation at this point.
