Sprint shows Motorola i930 WinMobile Phone

Product Launch by Michael Oryl on Tuesday September 27, 2005.

Today Sprint and Motorola announced the upcoming i930, Motorola's first Nextel iDEN device to run on the Windows Mobile platform. The new i930 runs on Nextel's network bands as well as the 900, 1800, and 1900Mhz GSM bands used in most other places in the world, making it a true world capable phone. The Nextel push-to-talk functionality can be used between customers located in the United States, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and Peru. Sprint has GPRS roaming agreements with a number of countries that will allow access to data services while roaming internationally on GSM networks.

The Motorola i930 measures up at 89mmx 48mm x 30mm (3.5" x 1.9" x 1.2") and weighs 167g (5.9oz). It has 64MB of built-in flash storage and 32MB of RAM. The standard battery should be capable of about 2.8 hours of talk time. There is a built-in speakerphone function, and dual color displays.

A built-in video-capable camera, a SD memory card slot, and a copy of Windows Media Player round out the device's multimedia capabilities. The i930 has full Java support, and comes with TeleNav 3.0, MyCast, Trimble Outdoors, and MapQuest Find Me pre-installed.

The i930 sports the normal set of Windows Mobile apps, including the Pocket Outlook suite that can be synchronized with a desktop computer. The ClearVue Suite is also included, allowing users to view PowerPoint presentations, Excel files, Word documents, as well as PDF files.

Sprint expects the Motorola i930 to go on sale next month (October '05) with a suggested list price of $499.99 - before any discounts and promotions.
