Samsung, Bang and Olufsen To Design Phone
News by Michael Oryl on Thursday September 15, 2005.
It seems that the mobile phone industry is looking increasingly more often for outside aid when it comes to getting their phones noticed. Nokia tapped optics giant Carl Zeiss for the lenses in the new N90, Motorola went to Apple for iTunes support on the ROKR series, and Sony Ericsson looked to parent Sony to lend them the use of the famed Walkman name for their latest series of music phones.
Well, Samsung seems to be getting into the game as well, having now agreed to design a phone with the help of off-beat electronics designer and manufacturer Bang and Olufsen. While the two companies have hinted that they are going to eschew most of the high-tech wizardry found in today's phones, they did say that they are planning of making use of Bang and Olufsen patented "ICEpower" technology for getting a higher level of audio quality and efficiency out of the device.
Neither company has released any real device specifications or even a model name at this time. It is expected that the device will be released to the public in the last quarter of 2005.
