Product Launch by Brad Kellett on Thursday August 04, 2005.

LeapFrog has joined the quest to get cell phones into the hands of young children through the TicTalk, a parental controllable handset.

The basic TicTalk, like the recently reviewed FireFly, allows parents to create a list of numbers that the child is allowed to call. In a departure from the FireFly, LeapFrog will be introducing MyTicTalk.com, a service that allows parents to create calling rules with options such as setting what numbers can be called any time, phone numbers that can only be called during permission based times, what time the phone can ring, and gives the ability to enable and disable features remotely. The MyTicTalk.com service also allows the parent to send reminders to the phone.

The LeapFrog TicTalk also includes a speakerphone, five educational games, and a stopwatch. The TicTalk is shaping up to take what was started with the FireFly and put it in a more robust and featured device.

The LeapFrog TicTalk will be available online starting this month and should be in retailers in time for the holiday season for an estimated retail price of $99.99USD. Service will be sold in blocks of 100 minutes for $25USD, though a carrier has not yet been announced.
