Twentieth Century Fox partners with WideRay Corp., Vue Cinemas and Lowes Cinemas to offer content downloads for patrons
News by Brad Kellett on Monday July 25, 2005.
Twentieth Century Fox and WideRay Corporation have teamed with Loews Theatres and Vue Cinemas in a pilot program in both the United States and England that will allow patrons to download free content from the hottest new movies direct to their mobile handset via Bluetooth.
This download service is a first for movie publicity, and includes content from the movies "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," "Fantastic Four," "The Perfect Catch," and "Kingdom of Heaven." Downloadable content includes movie trailers, wallpapers, ringtones, and movie schedules.
The service is based around WideRay’s “Jack Service Point,” a hub that detects Bluetooth devices in the immediate area and pushes the data to the device. Due to the fact that the system uses Bluetooth, there are no extra fees incurred from the mobile carrier for the download.
In the pilot program, the downloads will be offered in Vue cinemas in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Portsmouth, Cribbs Causeway, York, and Cambridge in England, and Loews Cinemas in Lincoln Square (New York), Los Angeles, and San Francisco in the United States.
