Motorola shows renamed 3G RAZR V3x

Product Launch by Brad Kellett on Monday July 18, 2005.

Motorola on Friday announced the impending arrival of the new 3G capable RAZR V3x to the US market.

[In actuality, what has happened is that Motorola renamed the existing V1150 handset in order to take advantage of the RAZR family's name. It appears that this handset will not be destined for the US as we had first thought. Our apologies. -editor]

Specifications on the new RAZR are still fairly scarce at the moment, but we do know that it will support dual cameras - a 2 megapixel unit with 8x digital zoom for photos and an internal VGA model for two way video conferencing. Other features such as Bluetooth, a TransFlash/microSD memory expansion slot supporting up to 512mb cards, and an "enhanced 3D graphics processor" are also in the mix. The RAZR V3x will also support AAC+, MPEG4, WMV, WMA, MP3, and Real Video/Audio playback and speaker independent voice dialing.

Although sharing many design features with the RAZR V3, the Motorola RAZR V3x would seem to be larger in all respects since it appears to be based heavily, if not completely, on the V1150 that Motorola introduced for the European market at this year's CeBIT show. Considering the lack of style in most 3G handsets currently on the market, the Q4 2005 release date of the V3x will not come soon enough for many potential purchasers.

Motorola expects the V3x to be available in the us in the fourth quarter of this year.
