Google kicked off its keynote speech at I/O today with some impressive stats. The Android platform has been taking off like a rocket, and the Android Market has been exploding along with it.
Android has now hit 100 million activations, with 400,000 new devices being activated on a daily basis. There are 36 manufacturers producing 310 different devices in 112 countries around the world. Two hundred and fifteen carriers now offer Android phones or tablets to their customers.
The Android Market has followed right behind the explosion of devices, with over 200,000 apps on tap now. Four and a half billion apps have been downloaded and installed, and there are 450,000 Android app developers, according to Google.
Android is still behind Apple iOS when it comes to total device activations and app count, but the margin is shrinking and it should not be long before Android eclipses Cupertino's finest.
