Japanese company Gree, a social networking and gaming service, has announced that it will purchase all the shares of OpenFeint, the popular mobile social gaming platform based out of the U.S.
Gree currently has about 25 million users, compared to the 75 million that OpenFeint has. The company has said that it will not be combining the two services, however. There is a possibility that the two could share applications or jointly develop games, though.
The purchase would also give an outlet for Japanese game developers to expand more overseas. The purchase amount for all of OpenFeint's shares totals $104 million. [via The Wall Street Journal]
