Tomy To Produce Phone Controlled Toys

News by James Paterson on Thursday May 26, 2005.

In a move set to further bring mobile phone technology into the lives of young children, toy maker Tomy has announced its Putica line of miniature toy cars that can be controlled through certain phones using infrared and and application available from their website.

Exact details are scarce at this point, although it looks like the Putica toys do come with their own remote control and using a mobile phone is not mandatory. This may well be a blessing in disguise as infrared technology requires a constant line-of-sight connection be kept between the mobile phone's infrared port (often located at odd points of mobile phones) and the car's receiver.

Oddly, considering the extremely child-like design of the toys (a brightly coloured train and a plane wearing green headgear, amongst others), textually.org report states that Tomy's target audience is female high school students.

Potential mobile phone racers may be better suited with SonyEricsson's Bluetooth CAR-100 which, while not nearly as cute looking, enables a greater degree of freedom through its 10 meter Bluetooth range.
