A new app from video-sharing site Vimeo is joining the Apple App Store today, just a few years later than its competitor YouTube's app became available. Perhaps, waiting so long was wise, as Vimeo needs to knock this one out of the ballpark in order to compete effectively. The Vimeo app offers access to Vimeo's library of videos, but what truly differentiates the app from YouTube is the ability to record, edit and, and upload videos to the Vimeo service from an iPhone. After downloading the app and signing up/logging in to your Vimeo account, the app will already have any of your uploaded Vimeo videos already present inside the app. From there, you'll be able to shoot video from within the app or load pre-existing videos from the iPhone. The Recordings tab offers a pretty barebones video editor, which offers the ability to combine video clips, add simple titles and text to the clip, create transitions, and add a soundtrack. The Vimeo app is only available on the iPhone 3GS and 4, iPod touch (4th gen) and the iPad 2, and can be downloaded on the Apple App Store for free.source: iTunes, via: GigaOm
