Sony Ericsson has added a new Android smartphone to its Xperia line, the Xperia arc. The arc is a thin profile, arc-styled slab handset measuring just 8.7mm in thickness at its thinnest point, yet it still offers an extra wide 4.2-inch FWVGA capacitive multi-touch display for web browsing and video playback.

The Xperia arc runs Google's newest Android system for smartphones, 2.3 Gingerbread, and comes with Adobe Flash 10.1 support for the browser built-in, as well as the 3G Wi-Fi hotspot capability. Sony Ericsson provides support for IMAP/POP and Exchange email as well as Gmail, and many different social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook, can be easily integrated and used as contact sources.

The new Xperia arc sports an 8.1 megapixel autofocus camera with an LED flash and the ability to record 720p HD video. Sony Ericsson encourages picture and video sharing by providing a built-in HDMI connector. A music player is also available, and it can be used with both wired 3.5mm headphones as well as with wireless Bluetooth headphones and headsets. A full suite of Google apps are also available on the phone, including Google Maps Navigation and Google Search By Voice.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc supports both 3G HSPA and Wi-Fi connectivity and will be available in midnight blue or misty silver when it starts shipping this quarter globally. No pricing information has been provided at this time.
