Verizon Wireless has dropped its unlimited nationwide calling daily prepaid price plan from $3.99 per day to $1.99 per day, Fierce Wireless is reporting. Text messages, however, have jumped from $0.01 to $0.02 per message.
Verizon also offers a daily unlimited mobile-to-mobile prepaid plan for $0.99 per day. Current Analysis, which spotted the price change, says that the new pricing can only be taken advantage of by Verizon Wireless feature phone users.
"The fact that it [Verizon Wireless] restricts its available handsets with its daily plans is a clear indication that it's preventing any possible cannibalization from customers in higher-end plans. Overall, I think the move is positive because the carrier wants to be competitive in the prepaid arena, but it does not seem that its ready to compete in terms of pricing, at least not yet," Maidy Whitesell from Current Analysis told Fierce Wireless.
