Speaking during the AllThingsD D: Dive Into Mobile conference last night in San Francisco, RIM's co-CEO Mike Lazaridis spoke about his firm's plans for QNX, the operating system that powers its upcoming BlackBerry PlayBook tablet. He confirmed that the QNX operating system will eventually power smartphones across RIM's portfolio. "By focusing on the tablet market, we see an opportunity to free where the smartphone can go. When we have multi-core processors across the board, they'll all be running the PlayBook platform," Lazaridis said. Lazaridis didn't confirm exactly when multi-core processors would power RIM's smartphones across the board. The BlackBerry PlayBook is a 7-inch tablet that's expected to launch in Q1 2011 for under $500.source: Phone Scoop, via: Reuters
