According to Reuters, the chief financial officer of navigation device manufacturer Garmin has said that his company's line of nuvifone smartphones has fallen short of company expectations so far, and that it will decide over the next couple of quarters on whether or not to shut down its struggling smartphone unit. Garmin has been working with ASUS on GPS-centric smartphones, including the Android powered Garminfone, since February of 2009, and first showed the original Linux-based nuvifone back in January of 2008.
