Sprint announced today on its Community blog that it will begin rolling out the over the air update for the HTC EVO 4G that will install the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on the device, and that it will be the first carrier to offer Froyo to its customers.
The first wave of update notices will be received by EVO 4G users on August 3, and all users should receive an update notice by the middle of the month. Users can also choose to manually initiate the update process by going to their phone's settings menu and navigating to System Updates and selecting HTC Software Update.
The Android 2.2 Froyo update is expected to greatly increase the performance of 3rd party applications and the Android web browser, in addition to offering users new functionality.
