Sprint Launches Music Service

News by Michael Adler on Monday December 20, 2004.

Sprint customers who get tired of chatting on their mobile phone will soon have the option of listening to music instead through a new mobile music service announced today. The new service is a feature of Sprint's Multimedia Services, a subscription service launched earlier this year that also includes streaming video. Customers will be able to choose from a variety of commercial free music channels, including R and B and Hip-Hop, Hit List, 80s, 90s, Country, and Rock.

Music will be provided through a partnership with Music Choice, which offers music services through cable and satellite systems. Sprint customers will pay an extra $5.99 for the service, which will also be offered as part of other entertainment and data service packages. At present, only a single Sprint handset, the Sanyo MM-7400, is compatible with the the Music Choice service, but Sprint plans to introduce additional devices that use the service in the near future.
