Sprint says HTC Hero and Samsung Moment will get Android 2.1 update
Amid rumors that the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment would receive an Android 2.1 update, Phone Scoop has confirmed with Sprint that the update will indeed happen. Sprint spokesperson Caroline Semerdjian told the site the Android 2.1 update will occur during the start of the Q2 2010.

Sprint updates HTC Touch Pro 2 to Windows Mobile 6.5
Sprint just announced that an HTC Touch Pro 2 update is available. Version 2.04.651.4 of the Touch Pro 2 software installs Windows Mobile 6.5, HTC Sense user interface enhancements, improves the social networking functionality, and fixes a few minor bugs. To update your phone, head over to Sprint's forums.

3,000 Vodafone HTC Magic Android smartphones infected with malware
Earlier this month there were isolated reports that Vodafone in Spain had been shipping HTC Magic devices infected with Mariposa botnet malware. Now, as many has 3,000 Android powered HTC Magic devices have been infected with the Conficker worm, Mariposa botnet, and a Lineage (game) password stealer, through their 8GB microSD cards. Vodafone is sending letters, replacement microSD cards, and virus scan instructions, to those with the malware.

AT&T Global Messaging 50 plan drops international SMS costs
Today AT&T announced its new Global Messaging 50 package. The $10 per month subscription lets you send 50 text, IM, picture, or video messages from more than 90 countries. The service, clearly not for messaging addicts, charges $0.40 cents for every sent message past the allocated 50. That's a $.10 savings over the typical $.50 international message cost, or $1.30 for MMS texts. The service kicks off on March 20th.

Verizon Wireless explains Motorola DROID Android 2.1 rollout
Verizon Wireless has clarified its Android 2.1 rollout schedule for the Motorola DROID. "The Android 2.1 upgrade for the DROID by Motorola was deployed to a small number of Verizon Wireless test users as scheduled. It is expected that the broader phased rollout to all DROID by Motorola users will take place, but not just yet. No date scheduled, we will keep you posted." We're standing by with a test device waiting for our rollout and will keep you updated.

Bharti Airtel in India to sell Apple iPhone 3GS
Today Indian wireless carrier Bharti Airtel said that it has reached an agreement to carry the iPhone 3GS smartphone in the coming months. The carrier hasn't announced a specific launch date or pricing, but it does have a splash page with more information and a "coming soon," header.

Google Buzz widget launches for Android
Today Google announced that smartphone owners with Android 1.6 or newer installed can now download a Google Buzz widget. The widget lets you "Buzz" what's going on in your current location, and you can also include a picture with your post. The software is free and can be installed from the Android Market. To display the widget on your homescreen tap Menu > Add > Widgets > Google Buzz.

Motorola DROID Android 2.1 update delayed?
Even though we were told an update was expected to begin at noon today, rumor has it a last minute bug has delayed the Verizon Wireless Motorola DROID update to Android 2.1. According to a screenshot obtained by Engadget, "The OTA software update for the Droid by Motorola is TBD. A new date will be communicated as soon as possible."

Nokia launching unlimited Comes with Music program in India
Nokia said recently that it will release its unlimited "Comes with Music" service in India. The application allows supported Nokia phones to download unlimited digital rights management (DRM) locked music for one year. The tunes can then be played back on the device or on a computer.

China Mobile pursuing Apple iPhone and iPad
China Mobile has its eyes on the iPhone and the iPad, according to AFP. "We're hoping we'll come to an agreement on the iPhone as soon as possible," China Mobile's chairman and chief executive, Wang Jianzhou said. "We will continue to express our interest in the iPhone. But not just the iPhone, also the iPad." Another Chinese carrier, China Unicom, already sells the iPhone.
