Last week while attending a press event in New York, I had the chance to take a look at the new Casio G'zOne Rock, the latest in the line of rugged phones Casio has built for Verizon Wireless. The Rock is very much like the older G'zOne Bolder model in design, but features a new matte finish and more durable external cover materials that make the phone look much meaner, ready to tackle hard jobs.

Like all of the G'zOne phones, the Rock is built to withstand a wide array of abuses, including water, dust, shock, and temperature. In fact, we've frozen past G'zOne handsets into blocks of ice and they have come out of the experience in fine condition. The Rock feels even tougher than the prior devices, and I expect it to be even more durable when it comes to harsh environments.

One of the new features of the Rock is its suite of outdoors activity functions, such as a thermometer and electronic compass, all of which are part of a new G'zOne application suite in the phone. So take a look at the photos and video of the G'zOne rock to get a better idea of what it's like and what it can do.

The Casio G'zOne Rock is available for purchase from Verizon Wireless now for $199.99, after a $50 rebate.

Mine will be coming today, however, I have played with one at the Verizon store.
Couple of things to note, the charging port is unfortunately not a micro usb, its their own style. From the outside screen you can also access txt msg's and scroll through the GZGEAR applications. The flash light is still there, but its on the back next to the camera of course.
And if you want to really ruggidize it, order the snap on hard plastic case with the rubberized outside, (body glove I think?)
