We recently received the new MilSpec qualified Samsung a657, a rugged workhorse of a push to talk phone being offered on AT&T's 3G network. The rugged a657 is built to withstand all sorts of hostile environments, including water, dust, shock, and vibration - to name but a few.
We've put together a quick video highlighting the design and some of the features of the a657, including its built-in flashlight. We're planning a real torture test for the phone, to be highlighted in a future video, but wanted to get our first impressions of the device out now.
And so far, those impressions are pretty good. The display is small, and the phone lacks a camera, but otherwise the design seems really solid. The body is made of a couple of different impact resistant hard rubbers that offer both grip and protection, and the nice red seal around the battery compartment keeps out the water.
So keep checking back for the full review, which will go with the real torture test.
