Nextlink's 5g Headset (CeBIT '04)
Gallery by Michael Oryl on Tuesday March 30, 2004.
One of the few headset manufacturers that I had time to visit at CeBIT 2004 this year was Nextlink.
Luckily, they had some rather interesting devices to show us, including a working version of their new 5G headset. That's as in "5 grams." Can you say "wow"? I sure did.
Nextlink was showing a non-working version of this same device at CES in Las Vegas this year, but this one worked. The folks from nextlink were telling us that we should expect to see it in stores within a few months, which is great.
While the battery life of this model won't compare to the prior Bluespoon models, the fact that this device is so small and weighs less than half of what the prior Bluespoons weighed is sure to appeal to many. Considering that the older Bluespoons were the lightest headsets on the market, you can really appreciate how much of a technical lead Nextlink appears to have over the other manufacturers when it comes to component miniaturization.
I'm certainly looking forward to giving it a good test when it becomes available.
