LG Versa now available at Verizon, hear our initial hands-on impressions

Gallery by Michael Oryl on Monday March 02, 2009.

The LG VX9600 Versa is now available for purchase from Verizon Wireless. The Versa is an LG Dare-like device that features a widescreen touch sensitive display and supports snap-on modules that can expand the phone's abilities. One such module, the QWERTY keyboard, comes included in the retail box.

We received a Versa last week and have been working on a full review, which we expect to post later in the week. For now, at least, you can take a look at the first two parts of our 3 part video series on the Versa to get a feel for how it works.

In general we have been very pleased with the phone but for one major exception, the web browser. The browser seems to be very slow at dealing with full HTML websites. We're not sure if that speed problem is data speed based or browser based, but considering that the download speeds for purchased music tracks seem quite good, we figure the blame rests with the browser itself.

In any event, you can find out all of the details later this week when the full review gets posted. The LG Versa can be had for US$199.99 after a $50 rebate and with a 2 year contract.
