Photos/Video: LG's KU990 Viewty Shoots 120fps Video

Gallery by Michael Oryl on Saturday January 12, 2008.

Earlier this week at the 2008 CES show in Las Vegas, we had the chance to check out LG's hot KU990 Viewty cameraphone. Not only does this device have a finger based touch interface like the famed Prada Phone, but it also has some very hard core camera capabilities. To start with, the Viewty has a 5 megapixel camera with both auto-focus and manual focus - thanks to a multi-function jog wheel that can also be used for scrolling and volume control. A real Xenon flash aids the camera in darker situations, when its ISO 800 speed rating can't do it alone.

The Viewty is capable of recording some fancy video footage, as well. That's thanks in part to the built-in digital image stabilization. But the real kicker in terms of video is the 120fps QVGA capture mode that slows down high-speed action to a very viewable, and interesting, crawl. Check out our live video, below, to see the Viewty playing back a 120fps clip. For those with more conventional taste in video, the Viewty can also record VGA resolution video at a rather normal 30fps.

Other features of note on the device include 100MB of built-in storage space and a microSD card slot that can support cards as large as 2GB in capacity. The 3", 240x400 pixel touchscreen goes nicely with the web browser and photo capabilities, and there is even a TV-out function for viewing everything on a larger screen. In terms of connectivity, the KU990 supports GSM/EDGE on the 900, 1800, and 1900MHz bands, and 3.6Mbps UMTS/HSDPA on the European 2100MHz 3G band. Bluetooth can be used for local wireless connections, as well.
