Last night at CES we got our first peak at Samsung's new SGH-i760 Windows Mobile powered smartphone. This unusual device makes use of a form factor somewhat like those common to HTC devices in that a full QWERTY keyboard slides out from the side of the phone. The placement of the d-pad and the numeric keypad on the device below (or to the right of) the display seems a bit strange visually, but does fix what I have always found to be one of the biggest drawbacks when using a Pocket PC device - having to use the touch screen to dial.
The unit that Samsung was showing last night had no battery in it. It is rumored to be running the next version of Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, but we have yet to see that for ourselves. It could also just be that the device is not yet stable and Samsung wanted to make sure that nobody got a poor first impression from using a prototype.
We don't have much in terms of specs on the device yet, but we expect to hear more from Samsung this morning at their press event in an hour. Stay tuned for more.
