On Friday of last week Sling Media announced that they began offering a beta version of their SlingPlayer Mobile application that is now compatible with Microsoft Windows Mobile Smartphone based devices such as the Motorola Q and the T-Mobile SDA. Prior versions only ran on Windows Mobile PocketPC devices.
The SlingBox is a device that allows owners to access their home TV content from a remote location using the PC based SlingPlayer application. The latest version of SlingPlayer Mobile makes it possible to do the same from a compatible PDA or phone. The SlingBox allows for complete control of TV and DVR/Satellite functions, so that users on the road can watch anything that they can watch from their living room.
The beta application is available as a free download and the final version will be made available for free to SlingBox owners who registered their SlingBox before April 26th. Those that do not qualify for the free copy of SlingPlayer Mobile will be able to purchase one for US$29.99. More information is available at the Sling Media website.
Below you will find a quick video demo of the SlingPlayer Mobile application running on a Motorola Q.
