Photos of RIM's EV-DO BlackBerry 7130e for Verizon

Gallery by Michael Oryl on Wednesday January 11, 2006.

Just a few live CES 2006 photos of RIM's EV-DO capable Blackberry 7130e for Verizon Wireless. The design is based heavily on the GSM versions of the 7100 sold by the likes of T-Mobile and Cingular. In fact, there is little difference between any of the 7100 series phones except for color and the fact that the later models, like the 7130e here, have more built-in memory.

The 7130e's target audience is the Blackberry user that is looking for a more phone-like device. RIM accomplishes that by using a new predictive text input system along with a non-standard keypad. The new system, called SureType, works much like T9 or iTap does, except that the extra column of keys on either side of the numeric keys mean that each button only represents 2 letters. This equates to less guess work when entering in a button combination with more than one possible word associated with it.
