A Quick Visit with Nokia's Bluetooth Enabled 6103

Gallery by Michael Oryl on Friday January 06, 2006.

I had the chance to follow-up with Nokia for a short visit with the new 6103 entry-level handset that the company introduced earlier this week in Las Vegas at the CES 2006 event. The 6103 is basically the same as the 6101 that was launched last year - except for a new look and the addition of Bluetooth.

Physically, I was really impressed with the handset. Everything felt very solid without feeling very heavy. The d-pad controller had a very nice feel to it and seemed quite accurate. I was particularly fond of the numeric keypad. The keys offered a solid click when pressed and were adequately spaced for reasonable use. Their raised edges also made it easy to feel your way around without looking.

The UI on the 6103 is a bit of a departure from a lot of Series 40 Nokia devices on the market in the past. Instead of offering only the page and 3x3 icon grid main menu styles, the 6103 has a newer condensed main menu that is a bit of a compromise between the two.

The Nokia 6103 will be available in black or red, and should be on the market later in this quarter. You'll find more live photos from CES 2006 on the following page.
