What is "Symbian Foundation"?

Formed in June of 2006 by Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, NTT DoCoMo, and others, the Symbian Foundation has plans to offer the Symbian OS as well as the two major user interfaces, S60 and UIQ, as a royalty-free open source smartphone platform.
