What is "MHL"?

Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) is a standard protocol for transmitting video, images, and sound from a mobile device to a high definition television over a cabled connection. Most applications of MHL dual-purpose a standard micro-USB port and utilize a powered HDMI cable to transmit information to a television, but there no set standard for the hardware aspect of MHL cables. The standard can transmit 1080p uncompressed video and 7.1 channel surround sound.
