What is "FOMA"?

FOMA is the 3G network developed by NTT DoCoMo, the world's first. It is based on WCDMA technology, but is not compatible with the European UMTS standard. NTT DoCoMo has stated that they are working to transition their FOMA network over to be compatible with the widely supported UMTS specification.
