The Korean giant was and indeed still is the biggest smartphone maker in the world, but this time last year its market share was through the roof, profits were high, and only Apple provided any real threat.

The users who posted the email is apparently a Samsung rep and is verified by moderators on Reddit, neither of which actually mean a lot.

Dutch based telecommunications company KPN has filed court proceedings against Samsung in the US state of Texas, according to official court documents. The European network is suing the world's largest smartphone company for using patented technology, with Samsung's Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 among the listed devices.

UPDATE: We told you yesterday about the Galaxy A7, Samsung's latest mid-range device that will be the flagship of the new launched A series of smartphones. Its specs were revealed in a leaked leaflet and a general January launch date mooted. Now it seems there is confirmation on the specific launch, with sources in Korea saying it will be launched January 14, the same date as the already unveiled Galaxy A5.

Just months after its launch is seems as though Samsung's Galaxy Alpha is coming to the end of its life as South Korea's ET News is reporting that the smartphone will be discontinued. The outlet says that the device will be removed from sale in February 2015 "as soon as its inventory of materials is exhausted".
