T-Mobile and Garmin-ASUS have released the Android 2.1 update for T-Mobile's Garminfone. The update is available on T-Mobile's forums, but it's not being rolled out over the air. Today ASUS (Asustek) commented on yesterday's announcement that it will split from developing smartphones with Garmin under the name "Garmin-ASUS." Today, ASUS offered some insight into the split as well as plans for the future. "We are moving from co-brand to brand cooperation, and we will use Garmin's solutions in our new Android phones exclusively for a couple of years," ASUS general manager of personal mobile devices Benson Lin said, noting that Garmin will be a "very close partner." Reuters points out that Garmin could now create and sell applications for Android, iPhone, and other platforms.
Today Asustek Computer (ASUS) confirmed that it is ending its cellphone partnership with Garmin. Garmin told Reuters that it will decide its smartphone future "over the next few quarters," and if it finds that smartphone sales aren't meeting expectations, it's ready to pull the plug on that market.
