Get the party poppers out and dance the night away as Google is celebrating an important milestone in the life of Android. The largest operating system on the market is now enjoying the festivities of Android's 8th birthday. Yes, it is hard to believe that the platform has been with us for that long, and it has come a very long way since those beginnings in 2007.The date was November 5, 2007, when the Open Handset Alliance, comprising Google, Sony, HTC, Samsung, Sprint, T-Mobile, Qualcomm, and Texas Instruments made a joint announcement revealing the OS. However, consumers would wait a year to see the first mobile phone to sport Android, the HTC Dream running Android. Since then we have gone through the major builds Cupcake, Donut, Éclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean, KitKat, Lollipop, and of course this year's Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
