Xiaomi is following in the footsteps of Huawei, LG, and of course Samsung by producing its own processors, the Chinese company announcing the new division today. However, while Samsung provides silicon for third parties, Xiaomi will follow Huawei's footsteps and will be building processors solely for its own products. The market leading company in the Chinese market will launch one chipset before the end of this year and it will be for Xiaomi's budget smartphones. That area of the market is huge for the company, but Xiaomi does not make a lot of money per handset, cutting productions costs with its own processors would certainly help. The second chipset will arrive next year and will be an octa-core SoC that will be targeted to Xiaomi's mid-range products. That means the flagship devices the company puts out will likely still come with either MediaTek or Qualcomm processors.
