Meizu's MX5 flagship was announced earlier in the month by the Chinese company and is a very good high end smartphone that delivers on the company?s early promise. Meizu is making plenty of progress in the smartphone world and has been more open to launching its devices worldwide, unlike rival Xiaomi. Today Meizu announced that the MX5 will be making its debut in India, one of the most important emerging markets.

Okay, there is more than a hint of the iPhone 6 about the design of the MX5, but as the old saying goes, there are only so many way to skin a cat, and there are only so many ways to design a smartphone. That said, we are not going to let Meizu off that easily as the MX5 is almost brazen in how it wears it iPhone influences on its sleeve. Despite that the handset is undoubtedly beautiful and elegant and is clad in metal to add that added touch of premium.

The MX5 comes with the Helio X10 Turbo chip with eight Cortex-A53 cores at 2.2 GHz, and a PowerVR G6200 graphics processor. Elsewhere there is 3GB of RAM, while there is a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD screen on board, which is plenty although we are surprised Meizu didn't opt for Quad HD considering the company's love of the best specs available. The hefty screen size makes the dimensions of the MX5 impressive enough, the handset comes in at 7.6mm thin, and weighs just 149 grams.

As for the rest of the hardware, the MX5 will be available in three on board storage variants, 16, 32, or 64GB the options available. There is a sizeable 3150 mAh battery on board and Meizu has included its mCharge technology which can fast charge the MX5 to 25% in ten minutes or 50% in thirty minutes.

In terms of cameras, the MX5 comes with a 20 megapixel rear snapper, the lens supplied by Sony. The shooter comes with some pretty standard flagship fare, with all the bells and whistles we are used to in high end camera modules these days. We are of course talking about such things as OIS, autofocus, 4K video recording, and Dual-Tone LED flash. Around the front Meizu has appeased the selfie trend by adding a 5 megapixel camera.

Admittedly software usually lets Chinese smartphones down, devices are not always updated and proprietary UI's are not always as good as those from other regions. That said there have been improvements in this area and the MX5 could continue that trend and it comes with Android Lollipop out of the box over the company's own Flyme 4.5 UI, which has been given a visual overhaul.

In India the Meizu MX5 will start at the equivalent of $302 and is available in the country right now? a very reasonable price tag for this device.
