Plenty of companies are adopting a bezel-less design for their smartphones and it seems that landscape bezels at least will be a thing of the past one day. Manufacturers are trying to get a superior screen to body ratio, and Xiaomi will be among them when it launches its next flagship handset, the Mi 5.

A supposed real version of the Mi 5 out in the wild has surfaced, revealing a handset that does away with the side bezels in favor of an all screen look.

A new report suggests the Mi 5 will make its debut within the next three weeks and could even be announced at a special event on July 16th. That is contrary to previous reports that said Xiaomi was having one specific problem.

That problem was apparently caused by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810, a chipset that has been troubled by overheating in other devices and was apparently causing the same issues for Xiaomi. Indeed, the Chinese company's own Mi Note Pro rocks the 810 and has overheating issues, despite carrying a supposed updated version of Qualcomm's troubled flagship processor.

Xiaomi was apparently willing to miss the yearly cycle of the Mi series (the Mi 4 landed last July) in an attempt to solve the problems or indeed wait for Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 to arrive later in the year. If this later report holds true and the Mi 5 land this month, it means Xiaomi has either had a breakthrough in preventing overheating because of the 810 or just decided to press on with the problem intact.

We sure hope it's the latter of course and it is becoming apparent that the Snapdragon 810 is a real problem child and is dogging plenty of 2015's flagships like the Sony Xperia Z4/Z3+, the HTC One M9, and the aforementioned Mi Note Pro. That LG avoided it for the G4 and Samsung ignored Qualcomm entirely for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge.

As for the rest of the specs in the Mi 5, they will undoubtedly be from the top draw and a rumored to include a 5.3-inch Quad HD screen, 4GB of RAM, 16GB or 64GB of internal storage supplemented by expandable micro SD support, and a 16 megapixel rear camera.

The front facing snapper will be an 8 megapixel lens and a 3030mAh juicer will attempt to keep it all up and running for a respectable length of time. A fingerprint scanner will also be on board and the Mi 5 will run Android Lollipop 5.1.1 out of the box, with an upgrade to Android M virtually guaranteed.
