LG has already said that it will launch a second flagship standard smartphone this year following the launch of the G4. That handset will differentiate itself by being a professional oriented flagship that will either be called the G4 Pro or the G Pro 3. The South Korean company (which was subject of a Google buyout rumor this week) has no reconfirmed that a premium device is indeed imminent.

During the company's third quarter earnings call, LG Electronics president, Cho Jun-ho, said a "super premium phone" will be launching in the second half of the year. Judging what we have heard so far about the G4 Pro, it certainly fits the bill as being a super-premium device and will be one of the best spec'd handsets on the market when it arrives.

Considering the Quad HD panel on both the G4 and the G3, it seems inevitable that LG will use the same tech for the G Pro 3. However, the company may be on course to get the best results yet for the 1440p resolution as the Pro 3 will comes with a 6-inch screen. That is the display threshold that many believe shows Quad HD tech off the best, so if the G Pro 3 does feature that panel we will be plenty excited to see the results.

Other specs include Qualcomm's confirmed but unreleased Snapdragon 820 processor, which should be good to go by time the G Pro 3 arrives. LG will reportedly help it out with 4GB of RAM, and while we would still not be surprised to see 3GB of RAM we suspect the arrival of the Snapdragon will usher in more flagships landing with 4GB on board.

There will be 32GB of internal storage ready to go, while a micro SD card slot will make it expandable. A 20.7 megapixel rear camera will put the handset on par with current flagships, while an 8 megapixel front facing lens will appease the selfie aficionados. Android 5.1 Lollipop will run out of the box and the G Pro 3 is a dead cert to get Android M later. A fingerprint scanner will be included too and LG is also reported to be including an iris scanner, which would mark a first if true.

A rather splendid package we think you'd agree, and if LG can get the design right the G Pro 3 could be a winner. At $790, the reported price, it would be a costly winner to buy though.
