Huawei has a new smartphone ready to launch at its scheduled September 2nd event at the IFA trade show in Berlin, but the handset getting announced is unlikely to be the Mate 8. When the press event was first teased it was thought that the Mate 8 would be the subject of the launch, but it now seems a revamped version of the current Mate 7 will be launched instead. The new smartphone will be called the Mate 7 Plus or Mate 7s and will merely boost the specs of the current version without being the overhaul that the Mate 8 would have been. Huawei's own Kirin processors are leading to that train of thought as the Mate 8 is expected to arrive with a Kirin 950 chip under the hood. However, that chipset does not arrive until late October, so if it is in the Mate 8 it means that cannot be the smartphone being introduced at IFA. We will find out for sure in six weeks, but in the meantime we'll hope for some more information to leak regarding the Mate 7 Plus.
