Samsung announced the Galaxy A8 via its official Chinese division last week, revealing a high end smartphone that is the thinnest the company has ever made. Because of its Asian launch, we speculated that the A8 would land in markets such as China and Samsung?s homeland of South Korea before making its way to Europe and the United States. The company has today confirmed that is the case.

The Galaxy A8 will make its debut in South Korean on July 24th, and will be available in white and gold for a price the equivalent of $563USD. As is normally the case, devices are slightly more expensive in Korea, but that price is about right for a high end handset that fits just below Samsung?s flagship output.

The smartphone is just 5.9mm thin and weighs 151 grams, which is a stunning feat considering the Galaxy A8 comes with a 5.7-inch screen. Speaking of that display, it is a Super AMOLED Full HD 1080p panel. Other specs include a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor clocked at 1.5GHz and paired with 2GB of RAM.

There are two choices of native storage, 16GB or 32GB, while Samsung has included a micro SD card slot to expand storage space. There are strong cameras on board too, with a 16 megapixel lens sitting on the back and a 5 megapixel snapper on the front to appease the selfie crowd. Android 5.1 Lollipop is running out of the box with Samsung's own TouchWiz UI baked on top, while other strong specs include a sizeable 3050 mAh battery and even a fingerprint sensor in the home button.

The device landed on Samsung's Chinese website first, which is all the confirmation we need to say that the handset will be landing in that country first. The company is almost certainly going to spread the Galaxy A8 around the world in the coming weeks and months.
