Samsung and Apple dominate the mobile space, but there is a very interesting battle behind those heavyweights for who should be next in line. Third place in the market is currently held by Lenovo (thanks to buying Motorola), while Xiaomi and Huawei are also in the mix. Chinese company Xiaomi is certainly going from strength to strength and recorded a bumper first quarter to put itself in a position to snatch third place.

The company shipped a massive 35 million smartphone through the first half of this year, a big growth over the 26 million the company shipped over the same period in 2014. The company is well on its way to topping the 61 million it shifted through the entirety of last year and could even match Lenovo to snatch third place in the market.

Sure, Xiaomi is still way behind Apple and especially Samsung, but it is worth considering that the company was only formed in 2010 and actually still does not sell smartphones in Europe, Latin American, or North America and the United States.
