Windows Phone isn't really the platform you go to for flagship kicks. Sure, the HTC One M8 for Windows is a fine high end device, as are the Lumia 930 and Lumia 1520 at a push, but for the most part the platform is littered with budget handsets. It is a trend that started when Nokia rejuvenated Windows Phone, and it has continued in earnest since Microsoft bought the Lumia division. So, the most popular device on Windows is, as you may expect, a budget friendly smartphone. We were going to lead this article by saying that it may be surprising to some that the humble Lumia 520 is the best-selling device on the platform, then we thought about it and realized it really isn?t that surprising at all. Indeed, the 520 is one of the best-selling budget smartphones period, no matter what platform you include, but it really sweeps up in terms of Windows Phone 8.1. It holds a 21.6% of the WP market, way ahead of the Lumia 630 with 10.2%. In third place is the Lumia 535 (6.7%), followed by the Lumia 625 (6.3%), and Lumia 635 (6.3%). Interestingly, Windows Phone 8.1 is not on 74.2% of all Windows devices, a very good number that shows Android how it is done. 16% are still locked on Windows Phone 8, but Microsoft will surely be delighted with the adoption figures.
