Festival Day (yesterday) in China was a resounding success for Xiaomi. The company had shifted 1.6 million smartphone after just six hours and then managed to pace itself to a staggering 2.11 million units by the close of the day. The frankly amazing number solidified the company?s place as the number one smartphone brand in China, and one of the top names in the world.

The figure meant that Xiaomi also sold the most number of smartphones from the same platform (Android) to end users in a single day, earning the company a Guinness World Record. The single day of sales accounted for $335 million USD in revenue. Of course, Xiaomi's business model is such that the devices sold were affordable and the profit margins tiny, so not much money was actually made from that $335 million.

Still, it is the way the company has been doing business since 2010 when it launched to challenge the big names in China and beyond. That Xiaomi would achieve its goal so soon, the company recently celebrated its fifth birthday, is a stunning achievement. The brand is number one in China, beating mega Chinese heavyweights like ZTE, Huawei, and Lenovo; and Xiaomi has even bloodied Samsung's nose along the way.
