Android 5.0 Lollipop is now making its presence felt on a lot of devices and is continuing to spread its wings. For handsets a little tighter to Google's influence the march is already on to get Android 5.1, with the build already landing on some Nexus device, which are Google's own products of course. It now seems as though the Motorola Moto G Google Play Edition is next in line, with the handset now receiving an OTA update to Android 5.1 Lollipop.

Of course, the Google Play Edition devices run stock Android and are sold through Google, so are always among first in line to get any new software upgrades. The Moto G gets the honor of going first from the GP Edition handsets and is receiving the 171MB package right now. As always you may have to be patient as it could take a few days for you to see the notification, but rest assured it is incoming.

Android 5.1 Lollipop brings changes to the 64-bit ART compiler, enhancements to get longer battery life, improved RAM management, and general tweaks to system stability. As is usually the case, there is also random unnamed bug fixes and performance enhancements.

If you have the update notification, ensure you have a Wi-Fi connection to save data (even if it is a relatively small update), and make sure the device as at least 50% battery.
